Ball Teams And Ball Fields
Gibraltar Baseball Association: (Little League) for boys and girls ages 8 to 12 years of age. We gad a very good season, both in competition and sportsmanship. The level of play has been increasing over the past couple of years, mostly due to the good coaching and the leadership shown by the adults. The league started in the middle of May and finished around the last week of June with the Round Robin Tournaments. The League Champions were the Pizza Bob's team, and the Round Robin Champions were Humbug Marina. The league has four teams with an average of twelve youngsters per team or 48 youngsters overall. Future discussions on the league will be addressed at a meeting in January 2006, since the city will not budget for the year.
The Gibraltar Travel Teams: We had 3 teams in the Downriver Baseball Association: One Junior Girls team, ages 12 - 13 years. One Junior Boys team, ages 13 to 14 and one Senior Boys team, ages 15 to 17. All the teams did very well in their devisions. The Junior Boys had a 13 abd 2 record for the season and won the league championship. Getting youths to sign up is a very difficult task every year.
Parsons Ball Diamonds: The ball diamonds are improving every year thanks to the efforts of the DPW and the coaches of the little league. Both diamonds the coaches re-installed the base, pitcher diamonds, and home plate. With the help from the court workers this year (2006) is to re-install the top half of the screen on the Fryer side of the diamond.
Community Center Ball Field Diamond: This ball field diamond is used mostly by the girl's team. This year the Junior Boys had to use the ballfield also, due to not being able to use the fields at the school. The fields always need reworking in the infield and around the fence areas. Otherwise, it is stil in good condition as long as it can be dragged weekly.
High School Fields: Theese fields are maintained by the School District staff. The senior boys used the high school field.
